The 5th EIRD Conference has been held at Ventspils University College

The 5th International Conference Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Regional Development – EIRD 2017 Smart Growth of the Local Community in the Global World has successfully been held at June 29-30, 2017 in Ventspils.
The Conference was organized by Ventspils University College (VUC) together with partners- universities and business schools from 3 Baltic countries: Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (Latvia), RISEBA University of Business, Arts and Technology (Latvia), University of Tartu (Estonia), Tallinn University of Technology (Estonia), Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) and ISM University of Management and Economics (Lithuania).
This was already the 5th EIRD Conference and it traditionally focuses on investigating the relationships between entrepreneurship, innovation and regional development. The aim was to explore these issues both theoretically and practically. 45 participants from 7 countries (Belarus, Estonia, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Great Britain and Lithuania) participated in EIRD 2017 presenting research in several topics including smart economic development, rural development, effect of shadow economy, attraction of investments, new financial technologies, impact of corporate governance and management to the economic development, performance of business incubators, SME and others.
The EIRD 2017 traditionally began with the Doctoral pre-conference- a forum for doctoral students to discuss their research findings and ideas with their peers. On June 29, doctoral students presented their research proposals to a group of experienced researchers.
During the Plennary 3 keynote speakers from Latvia and other countries had presentations:
Dr. Besnik Krasniqi, Staffordshire University (UK), University of Prishtina (Kosovo), Institutional drivers of high quality entrepreneurship.
Muzaffar Khan, Entrepreneur, Imperial College London (UK), Investments for developing SMEs in the regions.
Lars Pantzlaff, the Managing Director of Ventspils nafta terminals (VNT, Latvia), will share his entrepreneurial experience.
The VUC was be represented by Kārlis Krēsliņš, Rector, Liene Resele, the Dean of FEM, Sergejs Hiļķevičs, Professor of FEM, Guntars Dreijers, the Dean of the Faculty of Translation Studies, Valdis Avotiņš, Director of the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy center, Nataļja Jarohnoviča, the researcher of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Innovation and Regional Development and the head of Kurzeme Region Technology Transfer Contact Point, Edgars Bērziņš, the project manager and Jūlija Trofimova, PhD student.
