On September 14 and 15, 2017, the first international interdisciplinary conference “Bridging Languages and Cultures” with 57 participants from 14 different countries will be held in Ventspils University College (VUC).

The conference will be attended by 26 participants from five higher education institutions in Latvia, as well as by scientists and researchers from United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Georgia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Turkey, Romania, China and South Africa.

The steering committee of the conference will be compiled of representatives not only from VUC, but also from universities in Germany, Poland and Turkey. The scientific committee will be comprised of representatives of VUC, University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany), Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (Poland), Vilnius University (Lithuania) and Tartu University (Estonia).

The steering committee hopes that the cooperation will be mutually engaging, the conference intense and that the contribution in the translation studies and related fields will be considerable. The conference languages are English and German.

Organising of international conferences has become a valuable and important tradition in VUC. During the conferences, VUC is filled with participants from various countries, networking, strengthening existing ties, which gives the possibility for VUC researchers and assistant professors to present their work on an international level and gain international experience.

We urge everyone to attend the conference and actively participate in the discussions.
