The event was opened by Kārlis Krēsliņš, Rector of VUAS, who presented the contents of the program “Digital Business Innovation and Transformation”, its aims and objectives, and expressed gratitude for the cooperation with Krems University of Applied Sciences.
Aivars Lembergs, Chairman of Ventspils City Council, admitted that double diploma programs and international cooperation are what should be sought, emphasizing that time is saved when creating cooperation. It is important that such a country like Austria shares its experience and quality standards with VUAS so it can integrate them into study programs.
Vice-Rector and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Krems University of Applied Sciences Karl Ennsfellner stressed the importance of the new Master's program in today's labor market and said that this study program was most highly appreciated by students and employers across Austria. Carl Ennsfellner admitted that he was very happy about expanding his co-operation and, as he went to Ventspils, he felt like returning home, expressing his gratitude and appreciation to the VUAS and Ventspils City Council for their excellent reception. In addition to information on the contents of the Master's program, Karl Ennsfellner mentioned the intense study schedule as well as the fact that, within this Master's program, students will be able to study some of the study modules in Austria, where the study process is also provided by world-renowned company representatives with valuable experience.
The cooperation agreement was signed for a 6 year period, confirming the ability of VUAS to implement this program and also ensuring the quality requirements of Austrian higher education. It is planned that in September 2020, the first students of the Master's program “Digital Business Innovation and Transformation” will start their studies. The aim of the new double diploma study program is to prepare business leaders capable of driving the modernization of businesses in the digital economy, to develop new digital business models using design thinking and large data processing. With this program VUAS plans to join the IT industry and university initiative “BITS”, which aims to establish Latvia as a high quality competitive information technology exporting country.
VUAS, in cooperation with Krems University of Applied Sciences, has been implementing the double degree Master's program “International Business and Export Management” since 2015.
