This is them - Blackie and Artie, the "blind" and the bold one, the one who knows all about the airplanes but is terrified of flying, the one who can speak four languages fluently, the one who's lived in five countries, the one who was part of the first ever German woman Australian football team, but a sincere and friendly one, the one who is not going on the stage to introduce himself, the blond one, the tall one, the only one wearing a hijab, the one with a voice so sweet that makes you clap in awe, the super small one and about to beat the record of the shortest student at our university, but huge in making a great first impression, the adventurous one, the Portuguese one, the Russian and Uzbek one, the one with golden earrings, the one who hates the stairs, the one who says the mirror is her best friend and reminds her that life is awesome and everything will be alright, the taller one of the four, the one whom we will be seeing wearing that exact same jean jacket a lot...
This is it, we have met our new international students from different countries all over the world and also had a chance to catch up with the local ones and those who have been here for a while longer. The first impressions moment when all of us are a little bit scared of the unknown is behind us.
To make it easier for students and new staff members to get involved in their new study and living environment, Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VUAS) International Office created a series of welcoming events. Students were offered to participate in the “Meet and Greet” event to get to know each other and together explore the University campus. Between fun and laughter we managed to get through the official orientation day when students were instructed on important essentials about life in Ventspils and studies at VUAS. The event series were concluded by a trip around Ventspils city catching best impressions our beautiful city can offer.
